Monica Schwartzman, MD, MS, is a double board-certified rheumatologist and internal medicine specialist who brings her extensive experience to the practice of Sergio Schwartzman, MD. She provides rheumatology and internal medicine/primary care for patients.

Dr. Schwartzman attended Cornell University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in History. After graduating, she attended Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. She was accepted through Mount Sinai’s Humanities and Medicine program, a program that seeks to train doctors with a humanistic focus and patient-centered approach to patient care. Upon graduation, she received an award for distinction in research.

She completed her internal medicine internship and residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. She then completed a rheumatology fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, where she treated patients with a variety of rheumatology conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, inflammatory bowel disease-associated arthritis, gout, pseudogout, osteoarthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, vasculitis, myositis, among others and served on the rheumatology consultation service at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College.

During her rheumatology fellowship, she additionally completed a master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Services Research at Weill Cornell Medical College, where she focused her research on spondyloarthritis, and in particular inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) associated spondyloarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and imaging modalities in these fields. She has presented on these topics at national meetings. Dr. Schwartzman has additionally authored numerous papers, abstracts, and book chapters on a variety of rheumatologic and autoimmune conditions.

Dr. Schwartzman is a member of the American College of Rheumatology, the Spondyloarthritis Research and Treatment Network (SPARTAN) and the Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis (GRAPPA). She is an Assistant Attending Physician at the Hospital for Special Surgery and Clinical Instructor in Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
